Pierre

Postdoctoral Researcher

pierre.cockx@ivpp.ac.cn

I am a postdoctoral researcher currently investigating bird evolution through computational methods. My broader research interests focus on using diverse imaging and analytical techniques to explore the fossil record. During my PhD in Canada, I specialized in amber research, gaining valuable experience in studying exceptional fossils and reconstructing past environments.

Michael Serio

PhD Student

michaelserio@ivpp.ac.cn

I am Michael Serio, a PhD candidate in the Hu Lab studying the evolution of avian flight. My research focuses on the diversity and biomechanics of the pectoral girdle and forelimbs in early branching avians. I earned my master’s degree at Montana State University in Bozeman, subsequently collaborating with the Museum of the Rockies to digitize and 3D print Troodon formosus fossil specimens for a permanent exhibit. Outside academia, I enjoy hiking and occasionally playing video games.

王颖 Wang Ying

Master Student

wangying2024@ivpp.ac.cn

I am a master’s student at IVPP. During my undergraduate studies, through some undergraduate Innovation Competitions and my graduation project, I gained research experience on the archosaurs in the Triassic Chaohu Fauna of China. My current research focuses on the comparative anatomy and functional morphology of Mesozoic birds.

Eduardo J. Cruz Vega

Master Student

eduardojcv@ivpp.ac.cn / ejcruzvega@gmail.com

I’m a master’s student focused on the study of Mesozoic birds and non-avian dinosaurs. My thesis employs quantitative methods to investigate early avian paleoecology by analyzing diel activity patterns, with particular emphasis on the visual capabilities of these groups and their dinosaurian relatives. Additionally, I’m conducting research on Mesozoic and Cenozoic vertebrates from the Caribbean region.

Intern — 2025 summer

moonhuangyh@gmail.com

I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Paleontology at University College London. During the summer of 2025, I had the opportunity to intern at Han Lab, where I gained hands-on experience in Mesozoic birds’ anatomy and taxonomy. My academic focus currently centers on two areas: analyzing the gastric contents of enantiornithines and conducting biogeographic analysis of sauropods.

Intern — 2025 summer

inamy0911@hotmail.com

I am a third-year undergraduate studying Geography Tripos at the University of Cambridge. I feel privileged to join the Han Lab this summer to gain research experience. My primary research interests lie in paleoclimate, paleoenvironment reconstruction, geochemistry, volcanology, and biogeography. Currently, I am conducting a paleoenvironment reconstruction project, while my dissertation research focuses on biogeographical aspects of the carbon cycle: “C3 and C4 Plants in a Changing Climate: A Controlled Laboratory Investigation of CO₂ Effects on Photosynthetic Productivity and Growth Dynamics.”
